Hello All. The first nine weeks is going by quickly! Here are some of the highlights from the 5th week:
Reading - We studied text structure for nonfiction (informational) text. Students learned that authors use a variety of text structures to convey facts and information about topics, including description, compare/contrast, sequence, cause/effect, and problem/solution. Writing - We are publishing a narrative essay about an event or a memory (student choice). Students learned that a narrative essay is a piece of writing about themselves has a beginning, middle, and end. We included some "ba-da-bings" in our writing! Ask your child what this means... We also learned that putting a reflection at the end of the narrative essay helps the reader understand why the experience was important to the writer. Social Studies - Students finished their "Me on the Map" project. We are about to start a Texas Regions project. Groups will design an advertisement about one of the 4 Texas regions and present to the class. On Thursday, our class visited the Science Safari that was set up in the gym. What a fun time, as students explored different activities related to science concepts.
