During Thanksgiving week, students attended Multi Cultural Fest! We visited Taiwan, Morocco, and Ireland. Presenters for each country gave wonderfully explicit accounts of their country. We learned many things about places that many of us hadn't even heard of before. It's amazing how customs of different countries are so similar.
Students are working on an expository writing piece about their favorite day of the week! We are learning to use FEED (facts, explanations, examples, and details) to support our point of view. Students are learning what a topic statement is (a truism, in many cases) and how to use pitchforking to enhance writing. Students have learned the elements of realistic fiction. We are working on our independent reading during class, as well as at home. In social studies, we read about Christopher Columbus and his voyages. His story may not have been the way that history has always depicted it...This coming week we will learn about Spanish explorers, conquistadors, who traveled in Texas. We will discuss the impact they had on the native cultures that were already living in Texas, as well as how Texas developed as a result of their exploration.
